A community interest company for [Town or city] and the North East

HomeAbout us

About CDCE

We are a community interest company creating a shared home for social purpose in the North East, where diversity is a strength, communities work together and enterprise creates lasting opportunity.

Why we exist

Good work needs a good home

Across the North East, charities, community groups and social enterprises do remarkable work, often from spare rooms, borrowed halls and short-term lets. Many spend precious time and money finding space instead of serving people.

At the same time, too many local people face barriers to work and enterprise because of where they live, their background or their circumstances.

CDCE was set up to tackle both. By bringing organisations together in one accessible, affordable hub and connecting them with practical support, we can help them achieve more, and open up opportunity for the communities they serve.

Our mission

To provide space, support and opportunity that help community organisations thrive and help local people into meaningful work and enterprise.

Our vision

Inclusive, confident communities where everyone can contribute, and where the organisations that support them are strong and sustainable.

Our values

What guides us

Inclusive

We welcome everyone and remove barriers so that people of all backgrounds can take part and lead.

Rooted locally

We listen to our communities and shape what we do around local needs and local strengths.

Enterprising

We look for practical, sustainable solutions and reinvest what we earn in our purpose.

Collaborative

We achieve more together, so we share space, knowledge and opportunities with our partners.

Accountable

We are open about how we are run, how we spend our money and the difference we make.

Caring

We put people's wellbeing and safety first, in everything from our building to our programmes.

Our story

How CDCE began

CDCE was founded in [year] by people with long experience of the voluntary, community and enterprise sectors in the North East. [Add a short founding story: who saw the need, what conversations led to CDCE, and what you have done so far.]

We are now working with partners and funders to secure and develop our hub building in [Town or city], and to design our first programmes with the communities they will serve.

Governance

How we are run

CDCE is a community interest company (CIC) limited by guarantee. CICs are a special type of company designed for social enterprises that want to use their profits and assets for the public good.

An asset lock

Our assets and any surplus are protected by law and must be used for the benefit of the community. They cannot be distributed for private gain.

Public reporting

Every year we file accounts and a community interest report with the CIC Regulator, explaining how we have benefited the community.

An independent board

Our board of directors sets our strategy, oversees our finances and safeguarding, and holds our management to account.
